Karl L. Gearhart

Karl L. Gearhart, 71, of Greencastle, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 30, 2023 at his home. Born July 11, 1951 in Waynesboro, he was a son of the late C. Lowell and Helen Zimmerman Gearhart.

Karl was a 1969 graduate of Greencastle Antrim High School. He was employed as a Quality Engineer at Mack Truck until his retirement in 2007. He continued working as a consultant for Mack until 2009 when he started working part time at Mason Dixon Auto Auction. Karl was a member of Broadfording Bible Brethren Church and attended Calvary Temple in Williamsport, MD. He enjoyed riding snowmobiles, boating, water skiing, and taking care of the animals on his farm. Karl had a fun-loving personality, was quick-witted, high on life, and never met a stranger. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend to many. He was known for playing songs on his guitar and joking around while spending time with his family. Karl always honored the Lord in the way he spoke and how he acted.

He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Joyce Y. Gearhart, whom he married on May 10, 1989; five children, Megan Long (Michael) of Greencastle, Jennifer Bolland of Fayetteville, NC, Randy Ryder (Kassie) of Greencastle, Jeremy Ryder (Amanda) of Hedgesville, WV, and Dustin Gearhart (Cherie) of Greencastle; nine grandchildren, Katrina, Weber, Bryana, Acacia, Milani, Faith, Spencer, Bailey and Ivory; four siblings, Dale Gearhart (Helen) of Shady Grove, Dean Gearhart (Dorcas) of Waynesboro, Arlene Martin (Jerry) of Greencastle, and Linda Wenger (Jay) of Chambersburg; and his loving companions, Snickers and Alamo. Aside from his parents, Karl was preceded in death by his grandson, Avery Burkhart.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at Calvary Temple 147 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, MD 21795. Pastor Clint Taylor will officiate. Interment will follow the service in Hades Church Cemetery in Greencastle at 12:00 PM. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening, April 4, 2023, from 6:00 – 9:00 PM at the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, PA and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church. Condolences may be offered at zimmermanfh.com.
