Julia Helen Keto, age 86, of 15021 Maryland Line Rd. Greencastle, PA. for the last 31 years died on Tuesday, July 17, 2007 at the NMS Healthcare of Hagerstown nursing home.

She was born October 31, 1920 in Jersey City, N.J., the last of the family of Einar and Elsa (Walkonen) Wickholm, being preceded by her sister Carrie (Wickholm) Keto and her brother Harold Wickholm.

She is survived by her husband Jorma (Ray) Keto, whom she married in New York City on May 9, 1943 while he was in the Army, as well as by her children Karlen Keto of Yarrowsburg, MD., Hilkka Brucksch and husband John of Smithsburg, MD., and Raymond Keto and wife Joan of New Berne, N.C.; eight grandchildren and one great granddaughter, various nieces and nephews, as well as her sister''s husband Wally Keto of Oneonta, N.Y.

She graduated from Lincoln High School, N.J., plus business school, and the Delehanty Institute Vocational Division in New York City. She retired in 1976 from National Geographic, Washington, D.C. having been employed prior to World War II by Burrelle''s Press Clipping, N.Y. and during World War II as a "Rosie-the-Riveter" in final assemble of a bombsight at Sperry Gyroscope, Brooklyn, N.Y. and as a machinist at Aberdeen Proving Grounds following her marriage.

While she was at Sperry Gyroscope she was a member of the Sperry Choral Society and was chosen to compete as "Miss Victory/The Typical American Girl War Worker", surviving as one of the semifinalists out of hundreds of entries. She was a member of the Faculty Woman''s Club following the war while her husband was teaching at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, N.Y. Her memorable moments while her husband was employed as a Federal Civil Servant were attending a "tea reception" at the White House, numerous social events at the Finnish Embassy, where she met Urho Kekkonen, the President of Finland, and affairs of the Finlandia Foundation, National Capital Chapter as a member.

More recently, she was a member of the Coseytown Homemakers, AARP, Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, AACA and VMCCA.

At her request, there will be no viewing or funeral service. Her remains will be interred in her husband''s family plot in Glenwood Cemetery, Oneonta, N.Y. Arrangements were handled by the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home, Greencastle, PA.
