Mrs. Joyce Ellen (Barker) Smith, age 78 � of Greencastle, Pa. was called to her eternal Home on Friday, April 5, 2013 following a battle with Alzheimer''s. She was born in Leslie, W.Va. on October 18, 1934 to Glenn and Lillian (Hale) Barker. She married Edward J. Smith, Jr. in 1956 and lived in Romney, West Virginia before relocating to Pennsylvania.
Joyce had a bachelor degree as a Laboratory Medical Technologist from Alderson Broaddus College in Philippi, W.Va. She was a lab tech for different hospitals and doctor''s offices through the years. She was a faithful Christian, prayer warrior and soul-winner who taught Sunday School, Bible Studies, played the piano and organ and headed up Children''s Ministries in various churches.
In addition to her husband, Joyce is survived by four children: Kimberly (& Daniel) Sims of Young Harris, Ga.; Julie (& Reed) Ulery of Falling Waters, W.Va.; Jonathan (& Debra) Smith of Boonsboro, Md.; Jodi (& Keith) Layne of Lynchburg, Va., sixteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, her siblings Nancy Kane, Linda Sturgill, John Barker, Joseph Barker, Daniel Barker and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four siblings Betty, Bobby, Fred and Joan Barker.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 9 at 11:00 A.M. from the Greencastle Baptist Church 2377 Buchanan Trail West, Greencastle with Pastors Charlie Orr and John Miller officiating. Burial will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery Greencastle. The family will receive friends on Monday evening April 8 from 6 - 8 P.M. at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in her memory to Cross Purpose International P.O Box 858 Young Harris, Georgia 30582 or to Churches in Missions P.O Box 1559 Sanford, North Carolina 27331.
