Joyce Marie Martin

(1970-2021)

Trusting in God, baptized into the fellowship of Christ Jesus, and after many years of faithful and loving service, Joyce Marie Horst, wife of Christopher Martin of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, left this life to meet the Lord on the 2nd of December, 2021.

Born to Mylin and Darlene (Martin) Horst of Maugansville, Maryland, on the 9th of December, 1970, Joyce was united by marriage to Christopher Lee Martin on the 27nd of December, 1990. The Lord blessed Joyce and Christopher with five children: Curtis, Gwendolyn, Brendon, Jennifer, and Vanessa. Both of her parents, her husband, and all her children survive.

Also surviving are her siblings: Dean and Ethel (Martin) Horst, Arlin and June (Horst) Diller, John and Lynette (Horst) Eby, Japheth and Lavonda (Horst) Martin, Duane and Glenda (Horst) Martin, and Dennis and Doreen (Martin) Horst.

Joyce’s parents-in-law, Eldon and Naomi (Moyer) Martin survive as well as her brothers and sisters-in-law: Willis and Barbara (Martin) Martin, Cecil and Abigail (Lowry) Martin, Lloyd and Laureen (Martin) Eby, Enoch and Amanda (Martin) Lowry, Dwight and Amelia (Martin) Martin, Donald and Noella (Martin) Strite, Marta Martin, and James and Lillian (Martin) Martin.

Joyce, along with her husband and children, belonged to the City Light Christian Fellowship at Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, and will be keenly missed by all her brothers and sisters in the congregation. The evening before her sudden departure—due to cardiac arrest—Joyce generously contributed to a fellowship meal. Five days earlier she took part in cleaning up the Franklin Street Community Garden. Her generous and humble service will be etched into the memories of all those who knew her. She reached the age of 50 years, 11 months, 3 weeks and 2 days. “The Lord is gracious and righteous; our God is full of compassion. . . . Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints,” (Psalm 116:15).

Viewing will be held Wednesday, December 8th 1:00-3:00pm and 6:00-8:00pm at Upton Church of the Brethren, 8490 Warm Spring Road, Greencastle, PA. A funeral service and burial is planned for Thursday, December 9th at 10:30am with a viewing one hour before, at Shippensburg Christian Fellowship at 10600 Blind Lane, Shippensburg, PA., officiated by City Light Christian Fellowship. The family requests the omission of flowers. Arrangements are entrusted to the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Inc., Greencastle, PA.
