Joyce Ann (Snowberger) Hykes

Joyce Ann Hykes, age 84, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at The Shook Home. Born in Waynesboro, PA on August 6, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Max M. and Viola M. Byers Snowberger.

Mrs. Hykes was a 1956 graduate of Waynesboro Area High School. She was also a graduate of the Maryland Medical Secretary School and had earned her Associate’s Degree from Penn State. Mrs. Hykes worked for Corning in Production Planning for 36 years, from 1962 until her retirement in 1998. Mrs. Hykes was a member of the Marion First United Methodist Church, where she taught Junior Church, American Business Women, Red Hat Society, Gold Wing Road Riders Association, Chapter C, and the VFW Women’s Auxiliary. She enjoyed animals, reading, church activities, traveling, and socializing with the Gold Wing Chapter C members.

Surviving is her husband of 62 years, Franklin M. “Peep” Hykes, whom she married April 16, 1960, a daughter, Francine H. Phillips (husband John L.) of Shepherdstown, WV, a sister, A. Maxine Stahley, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Max Hykes in 2016 and a sister, Lois A. Knott.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at 11 AM in the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Inc., 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, PA, where Pastor Brent Stouffer will officiate. The family will receive friends on half hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Interment will follow the service in Cedar Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter, 5051 Letterkenny Rd. West, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
