Josephine ("Josie") Wine Spitz, 64, loving wife and mother, died Monday, March 14, 2011 at her residence in Surfside Beach, S.C. after a valiant four-year battle with ovarian cancer.
She was born in Waynesboro and raised in Greencastle.
A 1964 graduate of Greencastle-Antrim High School, she then received a B.S. in Health and Physical Education from Slippery Rock University. With this education� she was both a school teacher and a private aerobics instructor.
Always active in the communities she lived in; Josie was involved with many social, charitable and church activities. She was an avid reader, gardener and gourmet cook. She loved the beach and enjoyed tennis and swimming her entire life. Josie was an incredibly loving person to both her family and friends and will be sorely missed by all.
Josie is survived by her husband of 43 years, Ray Spitz of Surfside Beach, S.C.; her son, Bill, of Raleigh, N.C.; and her daughter, Susan, of Richmond, Va. She has one brother, Ed Wine, who resides in Greencastle with his family. She was the daughter of the late John and Tillie Wine of Greencastle.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 30 in the Greencastle Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends one hour before the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one''s choice.
