Joseph Myron Burkholder
Joseph Myron Burkholder, 83, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away Friday morning, September 28, 2018 at his home. Born June 4, 1935 in Hagerstown, he was a son of the late Norman Horst and Susan Anamelia Myers Burkholder. A 1953 graduate of the Hagerstown High School, Mr. Burkholder was employed as a truck driver at Shank’s Dairy in Paramount and at Horst Milk Transfer in Hagerstown. He was last employed at Paramount Feed and Supply. He was a member of Hollowell Church and a life member of the Longmeadow Fire Company. He enjoyed camping at Big Bear Lake, WV and watching NASCAR.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Barbara Burkett Burkholder, whom he married September 17, 1954; four children, Donna Jean Weyer of Columbia, MD, Kimberly Kay Larson (Curt) of San Antonio, TX, Jodi Ann Martz (Lloyd) of Williamsport, MD; and Joseph Myron Burkholder, II (Karen) of Hagerstown, MD; six grandchildren, Daniel Martz (Destiny), Lucas Martz, Andrew Weyer, Joseph Weyer (Kaylin Kugler), Kaylynn Shoop (Porter Foulon), and Savannah Creegan (Brendan); and five great-grandchildren, Piper Sue Burkholder, Maizy Sue Creegan, Brynn Arianna Weyer, Bodhi Liam Weyer, and Spencer Riley Martz. He is also survived by three sisters, Esther Myers Holland of Garden City, SC, Ruby Myers Stewart (Bill) of Upland, CA, Edna Ruth Langhus (Herb) of Okoboji, IA; two brothers, David Henry Burkholder (Barbara) of Hagerstown, MD, and Harold Glenn Burkholder (Carmen) of Fairhope, AL; a daughter-in-law, Glenda Lee Toms Burkholder of Murrell’s Inlet, SC; and his faithful companion, his white Maltese dog, Snowball who was constantly by his side. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Terry Lee Burkholder on June 9, 2004.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at Hollowell Church, Waynesboro, PA with Pastor Blaine Lougheed and Pastor Ronald “Red” Taylor officiating. Interment will follow at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown, MD. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Tuesday at the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 South Carlisle Street, Greencastle, PA and from 9:00-10:00 AM Wednesday at the church.
