John K. Shoemaker, age 86 of 76 River Bend Park Lancaster, Pa and formerly of Chantilly Court Hagerstown died at 6:00 P.M. Friday December 18, 2009 in the Lancaster General Hospital Lancaster, Pa.

Born August 8, 1923 in Chambersburg, Pa., he was the son of the late Harvey and Viola (Wingert) Shoemaker.

He retired from Amtrak as Vice President of Operations of the Northeast Corridor.
John was a member of the St. Paul''s Episcopal Church in Sharpsburg , Md. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Harrisburg, Harrisburg Consistory and the Zembo Shrine.

John also was a member of the Sharpsburg Lions Club. He enjoyed collecting train memorabilia and golfing. He was a graduate of Harrisburg High School and MIT with a degree in electrical engineering

John was a veteran of World War II serving in the the U.S. Navy

He and his wife, Elizabeth (Kershner) Shoemaker were married June 16, 1984 in Hagerstown.

Surviving family in addition to his wife are one daughter Cynthia Mae Rossi of Lancaster, Pa., two step grandchildren and five step great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Betty (Werner) Shoemaker.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday December 23 at 11:00 A.M. from the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle with Rev. John Allfriend officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6 - 8 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in his memory to the St. Paul''s Episcopal Church 209 West Main St. Sharpsburg, Md. 21782.
