John William Meek, Jr.

December 1, 1938 — August 14, 2024

Greencastle

John William Meek Jr, age 85 of Greencastle, went home to be with his son, on Wednesday August 14, 2024, with his family at his side. He was the son of the late John W Meek Sr., and Katherine E. Wann Meek, born in Reading Pennsylvania on December 1, 1938.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his son Johnny Meek of Greencastle. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Linda Lee Hepner Meek, whom he married on August 18, 1962. Also surviving are three children: Karen Rider of Greencastle, Susan Bowen with husband Scott of Greencastle, and Jim Meek with wife Lacy of York; 12 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren.

John graduated Wyomissing High School in 1956 and with a bachelor’s degree from The Institute of Fine Arts in Maryland in 1962. He served as advertising manager for Landis Tool Company for 23 years. He worked as a Senior Draftsman at Waynesboro Design and later Senior Draftsman for Signal Corporation until his retirement. John was a talented artist and photographer. He was a proud man who loved historic camping adventures, and telling stories to whomever would listen. However, his biggest enjoyment in life was his children and grandchildren’s, all time biggest fan and supporter of their sporting activities, but the love he had spending time with his family is what he cherished the most.

The family would like to thank the staff in the Critical Care Unit at Wellspan Chambersburg Hospital, and the staff with Grane Hospice Care.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Greencastle. A private service will be held for John, burial at Cedar Hill Cemetery, with a celebration of life to be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in John’s name to Tunnel To Towers Foundation at www.T2T.org/donate
