John H. Hykes
John Harmon Hykes, age 89 a resident of Menno Haven Chambersburg and formerly of Greencastle, PA died at 4:45 AM Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at Menno Haven.
Born June 24, 1925 in Antrim Township Franklin County, PA on the family farm, he was the son of the late Morris Andrew and Mary Ellen (Shuck) Hykes. He married Judith (Querry) Marsh Hykes on October 3, 1981.
In his younger years he worked on the family farm and then worked at Grove Worldwide in Shady Grove for 22 years retiring in 1987.
John was a faithful member of the former Trinity United Brethren Church of State Line and later became a member of the Macedonia United Brethren Church near Greencastle.
He attended school at the Greenmount one room school and he was a US Army veteran having served in France from 1953 – 1955. John actively served many years on the Beautiful View Cemetery Association of Middleburg/State Line. He enjoyed traveling, history and farming.
Surviving family in addition to his wife are two brothers Walter A. Hykes of Greencastle, Donald M. Hykes of Greencastle and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers Lester T. Hykes, Robert E. Hykes and a sister Margaret L. Shindle.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 1 at 11:00 AM from the Macedonia United Brethren Church 11887 Worleytown Rd. Greencastle with Pastors Milton Herrold Jr. and Mac Miller officiating. Burial will be in the Beautiful View Cemetery in Middleburg/ State Line. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6 – 8 PM at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle and at the church one hour before the service on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in his memory to the Macedonia United Brethren Church 11887 Worleytown Rd. Greencastle, PA 17225 or to the Hagerstown Rescue Mission P.O.
