John Nathan Hamilton, age 76 of Hagerstown, Md. and formerly of Greencastle, Pa. died at 2:30 A.M. Saturday December 4, 2010 in the Harrisburg Hospital in Harrisburg, PA.
Born June 10, 1934 in International Falls, Minnesota, he was the son of the late Glenn and Luella (Munro) Hamilton.
John was a twenty year veteran of the U.S. Army having served in Germany, Korea and Vietnam prior to retiring from the Army at Fort Ritchie, MD. in 1978. He also worked at Fort Ritchie many years as a civilian employee.
He and his first wife Elisabeth J. (Kemmerer) Hamilton were married March 8, 1961 in Heidelberg, Germany. She died on November 8, 2003.
He attended Calvary Bible Church of Greencastle and was a member of the Harry D. Zeigler V.F.W. Post #6319 of Greencastle. John''s interests included hiking, growing roses, watching Orioles baseball and Redskins football and attending area Oktoberfests to celebrate the twelve years he and his wife Elisabeth spent in Germany.
Surviving family are his wife Barbara (Anderson) Hamilton, who he married on Oct. 1, 2009, a step-daughter Johanna Anderson, Frederick, Md., sister Jean Vandermeer, Seattle, WA., brother G. Dale Hamilton and wife Blanche, Minneapolis, MN., numerous nieces, nephews and Timothy Scott a very good friend. He loved and was loved by many people. In addition to his parents, He was preceded in death by one brother Robert Hamilton and one nephew Carl Vandermeer.
Funeral services will be held on Friday December 10 at 11:00 A.M. from the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle, Pa. with Pastor Richard Overcash officiating. Burial will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery Greencastle. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour before the service on Friday.
