John G. "Red" Davis Sr.,

John G. "Red" Davis Sr., age 79 of 215 West Franklin St. Greencastle, Pa. died at 9:18 A.M. Saturday October 9, 2010 in his home.

Born March 11,1931 in Kauffman Station, Pa. he was the son of the late Brosie and Madeline Bible.
He was a carpenter for over 40 years, having worked for Jack Lanehart Construction and last with Eagle Construction of Greencastle.

Red attended Browns Mill School in Kauffman Station. He was a member of AAA, AARP, and enjoyed watching NASCAR. He was an avid fan of John Wayne, Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Dale Earnhardt Jr. Red collected NASCAR cars and other NASCAR memorabilia.

Surviving family are his second wife, Eva C. "Neal" Witmer Davis whom he married in August 1987, daughter Wilma Cyfers and husband John, son John G. "Skip" Davis Jr., all of Falling Waters, W.VA., sister Catherine Gehrett and husband Sam, Shippensburg, two step brothers David and Lester Thomas, two stepsons, Robert Witmer and wife Terry and Kenneth Witmer and wife Teresa, all of Greencastle, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Viola Davis, son Delmer Davis and step brother Dennis Thomas.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday October 14 at 11:00 A.M. from the Rest Haven Cemetery in Hagerstown, Md. with Chaplain John Winkler officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6 - 8 P.M. at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home of 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle. Memorial contributions may be given in his name to the American Cancer Society Franklin-Fulton Unit 384 Floral Ave. Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.
