John Eldon Carey, age 75 of 3557 Buchanan Trail West Greencastle, PA died at 8:30 A.M. Saturday, November 26, 2011 in the Falling Spring Nursing And Rehabilitation Center Chambersburg where he had resided since August 2005.

Born March 29, 1936 in Waynesboro, PA, he was the son of the late John S. and Cora E. (Ridenour) Carey.

John had worked at the Frick Co. and former Waynesboro Knitting Mill and was last employed by the Mercersburg Academy. He was a member of the Waynesboro Church Of The Brethren.

John also was a member of the Mercersburg Sportsman Association where he served on the board of directors, as treasurer, on the fish committee and had been the recipient of Sportsman Of The Year award. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He and his wife Hilda R. (Seville) Carey were married February 22, 1956 in Waynesboro.

Surviving family in addition to his wife are four sons, Rodney L. Carey and Timothy R. Carey, both of Waynesboro, Michael W. Carey and Kevin E. Carey, both of Greencastle, one sister Louella M. Murray, Greencastle, three grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and two step-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Friday December 2 at 10:30 A.M. from the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle with Pastor Murray Stevens officiating. Burial will be in the Meyers Cemetery near Mercersburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6 - 8 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Mercersburg Sportsman Association Scholarship Fund P.O. Box 33 Mercersburg, PA. 17236.
