Joe P. Horst

Joe Preston Horst, age 90, a resident of the Mennonite Fellowship Home 12349 Huyett Lane Hagerstown died Friday November 20, 2009 in the home.

Born October 16, 1919 in Maugansville, Md., he was the son of the late Harvey B. and Barbara A. (Martin) Horst.

Mr. Horst was a retired farmer and a member of the Mt. Olive Mennonite Church of Maugansville. He and his wife, Fannie (Horst) Horst were married November 7, 1940 in Hagerstown. She died on May 24, 2005.

Surviving family are three sons, Lee Horst, Gettysburg, Pa., Joe M. Horst, Boonsboro, Md., Ray Horst, Farmville, Va., one daughter Edith Myers, Knoxville, Md., twenty-two grandchildren and forty six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter Doris Horst, two grandsons and a brother Elmer Horst.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday November 24 at 10:00 A.M. from the Mt. Olive Mennonite Church Maugansville with the Mt. Olive Mennonite Church Ministry officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church today from 6 - 8 P.M. and one hour before the service on Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be given in his memory to the Mt. Olive Mennonite Church C/O Mark Strite 13416 Clear Spring Rd. Clear Spring, Md. 21722. Arrangements were handled by the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home of Greencastle.
