Joanne M. (Martin) Dunning, age 68, of Greencastle, PA , passed away surrounded by her family at 8:15 AM Thursday, March 29, 2018 in her home after a seven year battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born April 1, 1949 in Chambersburg, PA, she was the daughter of the late J. Earl and Ruth (Landis) Martin. Joanne was a 1967 graduate of Greencastle-Antrim High School and a 1969 graduate of the Franklin County Vo-Tech LPN program. She worked at Chambersburg Hospital intermittently for a total of 41 years, the last employment period of 32 years.
She was a member of the Greencastle Church of the Brethren, where she was active in the choir, God’s Angels, Bible School and served on various committees. She attended the Loving Hearts Widows Support Group and was a member of the Frances Leiter Center Council in Chambersburg. Joanne served as President of the Mercersburg PTO, secretary of the JBMS Band Boosters and served as President of the Nursing Alumni Association.
Joanne volunteered at the Chambersburg Hospital and with SpiriTrust Lutheran Home Care and Hospice; where she was the founder and maker of the Memory Bears, having made 965 bears in seven years.
Surviving family are her three children, Robert Raker and wife Anita of West Alexandria, OH, Tammy Stull of Mercersburg, Melissa Musser and husband Daryl of Greencastle, step-son, Adam Dunning of Sharptown, MD, thirteen grandchildren, Jessica, Aleena, Donna, Michael and Easton Raker; Jesse and Chase Stull; Morgan and Colby Bowen, Alexis, Victoria, Alyssa and Adam Jr. Dunning, two great-grandchildren, Kylee and Abagale Stull; one sister, Linda Peiffer and husband Steve of Greencastle.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Donald Dunning in 2016, step-mother Louise Martin, brothers, Larry Martin, Wayne Martin, Dale Martin and sister Carol Mummert.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday April 3 at 10:00 AM at the Greencastle Church of the Brethren 36 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle with Pastors Darlene Stouffer and Leon Yoder officiating. Burial will be in the Shanks Church Cemetery near Greencastle. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle and at the church one hour before the service on Tuesday.
