Joann C. Wingert
Joann Christine Wingert, age 75 and a resident of ManorCare Health Services of Chambersburg for the past two years and formerly of Palmyra, Pa. died at 5:15 A.M. Thursday June 19, 2008 in the nursing home.
Born January 12, 1933 in Fayetteville, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Amos B. and Martha M. (Myers) Wingert.
She was a graduate of Messiah Academy in Grantham, Pa. and a 1955 graduate of the Washington County Hospital School of Nursing in Hagerstown, Md.
Miss Wingert was a registered nurse having worked for the United Church Of Christ Home in Annville, Pa., for 5 years and she worked for Dr. Angle and Dr. Hoffman of Palmyra for 10 years. In her earlier years she worked at the Navajo Indian Mission in New Mexico from 1957-61. She also served as a nurse in the Dominican Republic with a short term mission medical team.
She was a member of the Palmyra Brethren In Christ Church where she sang on the church choir. Miss Wingert also attended the Antrim Brethren in Christ Church near Chambersburg.
While living in Palmyra she was a member of the Senior Citizen Center and was involved in the Interfaith Manor Social Group. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, counter cross stitch and traveling.
Surviving family are:
One sister, Freda R. Bowers, Chambersburg, Pa.
Three brothers, G. Elwood Wingert and Leroy M. Wingert both of Greencastle, Pa. and Eber S. Wingert of Chambersburg, Pa.
Numerous nieces and nephews
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a niece Wanda Lynn Bowers.
Funeral services will be held on Monday afternoon at 3:00 P.M. from the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle, Pa. with Chaplain Thomas Horst officiating. Burial will be in the old Antrim Church Cemetery near Greencastle. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour before the service on Monday.
