M. Joan McBeth Oberholzer, age 78 of 16 South Carlisle St. Greencastle died at 6:42 A.M. Thursday February 17, 2011 in the Falling Spring Nursing And Rehabilitation Center Chambersburg . She had been in declining health the past several months following a hip fracture.
Born March 27, 1932 in Shippensburg, PA., she was the daughter of the late Horace M. Sr. and Sara E. (Richardson) McBeth.
Joan was a cook and waitress at the Family Restaurant and former Palace Restaurant, both of Greencastle. She had also worked at the former Greencastle Dry Cleaners. She was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Greencastle and a member of the Rescue Hose Co #1 of Greencastle. She was a 1950 graduate of Greencastle High School. Joan enjoyed sitting on her front porch and talking to people. Her husband, John W. Oberholzer died October 30, 1985.
Surviving family are one brother Thomas T. McBeth, Greencastle, eleven nieces and nephews, nine grand nieces and nephews and three great grand nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers Horace M. McBeth Jr., Charles H. McBeth and one nephew.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday February 22 at 2:00 P.M. from the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle with Rev. Martin Horn officiating. Burial will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery Greencastle. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6 - 8 P.M. and one hour before the service on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in her memory to the Memorial Fund of the Evangelical Lutheran Church 130 N. Washington St. Greencastle, PA. 17225.
