Joan E. James

Joan E. (Bower) James, age 91 of Largo, Florida and formerly of 94 Orchard Circle Greencastle, PA died Tuesday, June 2, 2020 in Florida.

Born August 16, 1928 in Hagerstown, MD, she was the daughter of the late Bernadette and Keefer Bower. She married her husband Roy M. James on July 2, 1964. He died February 20, 2007.

Joan graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Hagerstown and was a graduate of the University of Maryland  School of Nursing in Baltimore. She served in the US Navy as a Registered Nurse obtaining the rank of Lieutenant.  She served in Japan and was a veteran of the Korean War having served from 1950 – 1955. She was of the Roman Catholic faith.

Joan enjoyed travelling and went on extensive trips to Russia, Panama Canal Zone, Japan, Hawaii, the Carribean, and Brazil in her earlier married life. Joan loved her two cat  companions.

Surviving family are a nephew Jay Gingrich and several cousins.

A private graveside service will be held at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Hagerstown, MD with Rev. Father Langan officiating. There will be no viewing.  Arrangements were by the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home in Greencastle.
