J. Eldon Crider

J. Eldon Crider, age 83, of Clay Hill Rd. Chambersburg, PA died on Thursday, November 17, 2016 in the Chambersburg Hospital. Born March 2, 1933 in Chambersburg, PA, he was the son of the late John H. and Lizzie E. (Frey) Crider. He married his wife Dorothy M. (Shank) Crider on June 15, 1957.

Eldon was a lifelong dairy farmer. He was a member of the Chambersburg Mennonite Church and had served as church chorister. He was a member of the PA State and National Holstein Associations and had served on the Franklin County DHIA Board of Directors. Eldon enjoyed singing and sang with various community choirs and men’s quartets.

Surviving family in addition to his wife of 59 years are two sons, Richard L. Crider of Chambersburg, J. Arlan Crider and wife Kathy of Chambersburg, two daughters, Ronda J. Bomberger and husband Mahlon of Chambersburg, Rita M. Frey and husband David of Chambersburg, six grandchildren, Amy Crider, Amber Crider, Andrea Crider, Charles Bomberger and wife Sarah, Adam Frey and wife Hannah, Grant Frey, three sisters, Elinor Showalter and Janet Crider, both of Chambersburg and Thelma Diller of Shippensburg.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers Lester and Harold Crider and a sister Leona Showalter.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday November 22 at 11:00 AM at the Chambersburg Mennonite Church 1800 Philadelphia Ave. Chambersburg with Rev. Jerry Roth and Rev. Darrell Baer officiating. Burial in the adjoining church cemetery will be at the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends at the church on Monday from 2:00 – 4:00 PM and 6:00-8:00 PM and one hour before the service on Tuesday.  Memorial contributions may be given in his memory to the Cumberland Valley Relief Center 4225 Molly Pitcher Hwy. Chambersburg, PA 17202. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.zimmermanfh.com. Arrangements were handled by the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral home of Greencastle.
