Jarvis M. Henson, age 92, who lived with his daughter in Odenton, Md. and formerly of 305 East Madison St. Greencastle died at 4:20 A.M. Friday March 27, 2009 in the Heritage Harbour Health And Rehabilitation Center in Annapolis, Md.
Born June 28, 1916 in Hagerstown, Md., he was the son of the late Earl and Mary (Lum) Henson.
He was the owner and operator for many years of the former Henson''s Bakery of Greencastle having retired in 1990. He also had worked as a mail courier and self-employed photographer.
Mr. Henson was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Greencastle. He had built his own home on Madison Street in Greencastle and he served as the town photographer for many years having taken school pictures, Old Home Week pictures and photos of many local interests.
His hobbies and interests included photography, oil painting, pencil drawing and playing the organ.
He and his wife, H. Leona (Bryan) Henson were married July 16, 1938. She died on July 23, 1997.
Surviving family are three daughters, Judy Dilcher, Glen Mills, Pa., Beverly Moxley, White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia and Emily Smalt, Odenton, Md., one sister Betty Gossard, Willow Street, Pa., eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by: a son, Earl W. Henson on February 17, 2000, four brothers, Earl Henson, Alfred Henson, Kenneth Henson, Joseph Henson and two sisters Kathleen Gilbert and Isabel Henson.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday April 2 at 11:00 A.M. from the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home with Rev. Stacy A. Crawford officiating. Burial will be in the Macedonia United Brethren Church Cemetery near Greencastle. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6 - 8 P.M.
