Janet Carol (Widder) Sipes, 74, of Greensburg, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2011 after a prolonged illness.
Born June 27, 1936 in Kauffman, she was the daughter of the late George Howard "Dutch" and Mary Ruth Atherton Widder.
She graduated from Greencastle High School in 1954 and worked as secretary to William P. Conrad, Greencastle High School principal.
She and her husband, Donald Lynn, were married July 7, 1956 in Hagerstown, Md.
Mrs. Sipes worked as secretary for head of the Mineralogy Department at Penn State University, where her husband attended and obtained his Electrical Engineering degree. They lived first in Kauffman and then Greensburg, here her husband, worked and retired from Allegheny Power Co. In later life, her hobbies were reading, bird watching and neighborhood networking.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, David Lynn Sipes and wife, Diane, of Greensburg and Duane Andrian Sipes and his wife, Penny, of Winchester, Va.; three grandchildren, Danielle, Stephen and Christopher Sipes, all of Greensburg; and a brother, Vernon C. Widder, and wife, Connie, of Chambersburg.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the Jay A. Hoffer Funeral Home, Norvelt, and from 11 a.m to noon Tuesday, March 1 in the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle.
Services will be held at noon Tuesday, March 1, in the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home with Pastor Adam Leeper officiating.
Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greenscastle. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 4727 State Rt. 30, Greensburg, PA 15601
