J. Lorraine “Dolly” Shoemaker, age 91, of Greencastle, PA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 20th in the Chambersburg Hospital. Born June 10, 1933, in Marion, PA, she was the daughter of the late Roy “Doc” Oberholzer and Nora Barnes Oberholzer. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Joseph R. Shoemaker who passed away on August 1, 1979.
She attended Greencastle High School. Over the years she worked at both Linden and Colonial Flower Shops in Greencastle. She and her husband owned the Flower & Gift Nook and Radio Shack for many years on Greencastle Square. After closing the business, she worked at the Antrim House Restaurant as a hostess and cashier. She was a faithful member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Greencastle, which she attended since the age of 8. She was a founding member of the Greencastle-Antrim Lioness Club, and member of the Greencastle Homemakers and Lutheran Church Women. Dolly also served for many years on the Greencastle Old Home Committee serving as the chairman of the triennial Flower Show, since inception, held during Old Home week and sponsored by the Greencastle Antrim Lioness Club until 2019.
She is survived by three daughters, Connie Hartman (Terry), of Millersville, PA, Debra Boyd (Robert) of Marysville, PA, Denice Norris (Robert) of Mercersburg, PA, and one son, Barry Shoemaker (Carolyn) of Greencastle, PA; her loving companion, Howard ‘Bing’ Fleagle; six grandchildren, Jack Shoemaker, Shea Hartman (Katie), Ryan Hartman (Megan), Kate Dashevsky (Andrew), Joe Boyd (Kirsten), and Emily Mcmann (Ross); eight great-grandchildren, Ari, Henryk, Elias, Eleanora, Azaria, Florence, Benjamin, and Eilen; and siblings, Bernard Oberholzer, Lyndell Smith, Carolyn Kendle, Kaye Emerick, Daryl Oberholzer, Richard Oberholzer, Judy Myers, Vaughn Oberholzer and Dwaine Oberholzer. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Ronald and siblings, Eileen Souders, Linford Oberholzer, Merle Oberholzer and Donnie Oberholzer.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at 11:00 am at the Evangelical Lutheran Church, 130 N Washington, Greencastle, PA with interment to follow the service in Cedar Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, from 6 – 9 PM in the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Inc., 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, PA 17225 and on Wednesday at the above church and address one hour prior to the service.
