Mrs. Janet Ruth Barnes Seylar, 82, of Chambersburg, died Friday evening, February 3, 2012, at Providence Place, Chambersburg. She was the wife of the late Jay Lynn Seylar, who preceded her in death on January 20, 2004.
Born June 24, 1929, in Waynesboro, she was a daughter of the late Jacob C. and Ella Mae McLucas Barnes. She was a graduate of Greencastle High School, Class of 1949.
Mrs. Seylar was a member of Calvary Bible Church, Greencastle.
She was an Avon Representative for over 40 years. She started in 1959, served the Greencastle area, and won numerous sales awards.
Mrs. Seylar and her husband were formerly involved with the Mason Dixon Camping Organization.
Surviving are sons, Gregory L. Seylar and wife Shirley of Waynesboro, and Kenneth R. Seylar and wife Alice of Greencastle; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren; as well as siblings Betty Bittner of Chambersburg and Lois "Chub" Oberholzer of Delaware.
Besides her husband and parents, Mrs. Seylar was preceded in death by siblings Nora Oberholzer, Raymond "Buss", Sr., Paul "Tiny" and Harold Barnes, Evelyn Grosh, and Olen "Shorty" and Warren "Slim" Barnes.
Friends may call at Harold M. Zimmerman & Son Funeral Home, Tuesday, February 7, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. The funeral service will be from her church, Calvary Bible Church, on Wednesday, February 8, at 11:00 AM. Her pastor, Rev. Richard D. Overcash, will officiate. Interment will follow in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to her church Calvary Bible Church, 3845 Buchanan Trail West, Greencastle, Pennsylvania 17225; or to Lutheran Home Care and Hospice, 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, Pennsylvania 17202.
