Janet Bittner

Janet L. Bittner, age 84 of 38 South Carl Ave., Greencastle, PA died unexpectedly at 12:05 A.M. Thursday, September 10, 2009 in the Waynesboro Hospital.

Born December 31, 1924 in Antrim Twp., Franklin County, PA she was the daughter of the late John Clyde Sr. and Louise (Cook) Bittner.

She was a Licensed Practical Nurse at the Chambersburg Hospital for 40 years. In her earlier years she worked at the former GEM Garment and Victor Hosiery both of Greencastle. She was a 1942 graduate of the Greencastle High School.

Janet was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Greencastle and was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Harry D. Zeigler VFW Post #6319 of Greencastle. She enjoyed knitting, swimming, traveling, and watching baseball.

Surviving family are two brothers, Edwin C. Bittner Sr. of Greencastle, PA and Frank A. Bittner of Waynesboro, PA. and numerous nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother J. Clyde Bittner Jr. on May 31, 2008.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday September 13 at 2:00 P.M. from the Harold M. Zimmerman & Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle with Rev. Martin H. Horn officiating. Burial will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle. The family will receive friends one hour before the service on Sunday at the funeral home. The Greencastle V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary will hold a memorial service at 1 PM Sunday at the funeral home. The family requests that flowers be omitted and memorial contributions be made in her memory to the Memorial Fund of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, 130 N. Washington St., Greencastle, PA 17225.
