James Scott Davis

September 6, 1937 — April 12, 2015

James Scott Davis, age 77 of State Line, PA passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2015 at the Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, MD after a long, hard fought battle with cancer.

Born September 6, 1937 in Waynesboro, PA, he was the son of the late Walter Scott and Mabel (Koons) Davis. He attended Browns Mill School for 8 years and attended Greencastle High School.
He previously attended Ebenezer “Guitners” United Brethren Church of Greencastle. He was a member of the Teamsters Union Local #992 of Hagerstown and was an AARP member.

In his earlier years he worked at several grocery stores in Chambersburg, Greencastle and Hagerstown. His last job in the grocery store was at Food Fair in Hagerstown. He was then transferred to Falls Church, VA to help start up a new Food Fair Store. In 1962 he went to work at Tayton’s Freight System in Greencastle.  He was employed at Tayton’s for over 24 years. Later, he worked for Hoffman Transport in Greencastle as a dock supervisor at Corning Glass Works Greencastle until he retired in 1999.
He enjoyed traveling, the beach, the outdoors, hiking and being with his pets.

Surviving family are his brothers Norman Davis of Greencastle, Harold Davis of Palm Harbor, FL, Gerald Davis Shipp of Chambersburg, step-son and caregiver Ray Trail and  longtime friend Mike Gilroy, both of State Line,  several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
James was preceded in death by two sisters Pearl Melius, Helen Oberholzer, one brother Carl Davis and one nephew Norman Melius.

A memorial service will held on Saturday April 18 at 11:00 A.M. from the Broadfording Bible Brethren Church 13523 Broadfording Church Rd. Hagerstown with Pastor Bill Wyand and Rick Burkett officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service on Saturday. Interment and graveside service will be at 2:30 P.M. Saturday at the Fairview Cemetery in Mercersburg, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in his name to the Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter 5051 Letterkenny Road West Chambersburg, PA 17201.
