James Edward Collins, age 73 of 1226 Webling Circle Greencastle, Pa. and a resident of ManorCare Health Services of Chambersburg died at 1:15 P.M. Friday, November 28, 2008 in the Chambersburg Hospital.
Born February 16, 1935 in Alverton, Pa., he was the son of the late George W. and Lottie Mae (Miller) Collins.
He retired from the U.S. Air Force with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant serving from 1953 till 1979 and was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict having received the Vietnam Service Medal with three bronze service stars and the Air Force Longevity Service Award with five oak clusters. He also worked as an electronic technician with the Smithsonian Institute in Washington D.C.
Mr. Collins was a member of the Church Of God in Alverton and was a member of the Air Force Association and the A.A.R.P.

He and his wife, Ingrid A. (Schwenn) Collins were married January 12, 1957.

Surviving family in addition to his wife are one son David Keith Collins of Harwood, Md., two brothers, William B. Collins of Alverton, Pa. and Thomas K. Collins of Summerville, S.C., one grandson, James Gregory Tippett, sister-in-laws, brother-in-law, several nieces and nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday December 3 at 11:00 A.M. from the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle with Rev. William W. DeHass officiating. Burial will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery Greencastle. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour before the service on Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be given in his memory to the John Hopkins School Of Medicine One Charles Center 100 North Charles Street Baltimore, MD 21201.
