James T. Clark

James T. Clark, age 99, of Penn Hall, Chambersburg, and formerly of South Allison Street Greencastle, PA, died Friday, January 13, 2017, at home.

Born December 28, 1917, in Glenelg, Maryland, he was the son of the late Wallace J. and Lucile Higgins Clark.  He lived his early life in Howard and Anne Arundel Counties, MD.  After World War II, he lived in Greencastle for 36 years before moving to Chambersburg in 1993.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army from Feb. 1941 to Jan 1946, having served in World War II in the European Theatre, including:  England, France, Germany, Luxembourg, and Belgium.  He remained in the U.S. Army Reserves, completing 22 years of military service, and retired in 1964 as a Lt. Colonel.

Following his U.S. Army active duty, he was employed by The Echo Pilot weekly newspaper in Greencastle, and later worked for 20 years at the Public Opinion newspaper in Chambersburg, retiring in 1983 as Production Director.

He was a current member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Chambersburg, and previously of St. Mark the Evangelist Church in Greencastle, PA.  He was a life member of V.F.W. Post 6319 in Greencastle, and a lifetime member of Menno Haven, Inc. Auxiliary.  He had been active volunteering in several organizations at the Penn Hall retirement community campus.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Gladys Houck Clark, in 1997; and also by two brothers, Wallace J., Jr., and Beverly E.

Surviving are his second wife, Beatrice Niswander Crist Clark; three sons:  Robert C. (Stephanie), of Annapolis, Maryland; James T. “Tom”, Jr. (Susan), of Portland, Oregon; and Jeffrey A. (Sharon), of Lewes, Delaware; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three stepchildren:  Marcia D. Mouer of LaPlata, Maryland; Kathleen A. McCarty of Frankford, Delaware; and Michael A. Crist of Hedgesville, West Virginia; five step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandsons; and one sister, Dorothy G. Clark, of Indian Head, Maryland.

Services will be held Thursday, January 19, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mark the Evangelist Church, 385 South Ridge Avenue, Greencastle, PA, with Rev. Joseph Stahura celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial.  Burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle with graveside military honors provided by the Chambersburg V.F.W. Post #1599 Honor Guard.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 South Carlisle Street, Greencastle, on Wednesday, January 18, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. with the Rosary held at 7:30 p.m.
