J. Clyde Bittner, Jr., age 89, of 876 Fairview Ave., Waynesboro, PA. died unexpectedly at 4:30 A.M. on Saturday, May 31, 2008 in his home.

Born, August 1, 1918 in Shady Grove, PA. he was the son of the late John Clyde Bittner, Sr. and Louise (Cook) Bittner.

He and his wife, Lois L. (Grumbine) Bittner were married in 1949 in Winchester, VA. She died on December 22, 2005.

Mr. Bittner retired in 1982 after 46 years of employment from the former Landis Tool Company of Waynesboro, PA. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II serving in the Panama Canal Zone. He was a past Post Commander and Honorary Life Member of the Harry D. Zeigler VFW Post #6319 of Greencastle, PA. and a member of the Joe Stickell American Legion Post #15 of Waynesboro, PA. He was a graduate of the Greencastle High School Class of 1936.

He was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Waynesboro, PA., Greencastle Sportsman''s Association, Waynesboro YMCA, Waynesboro Industrial Museum, Renfrew Historical Society, Elks Lodge #731of Waynesboro, PA. and the Eagles Club of Waynesboro, PA. Mr. Bittner enjoyed hunting, fishing, and walking.

Surviving family are: one Son, John C. (Husband of Cheryl L.) Bittner III of Chambersburg, PA.; two Brothers, Edwin C. Bittner of Greencastle, PA. and Frank A. (Husband of Shirley) Bittner of Waynesboro, PA.; one Sister, Janet L. Bittner of Greencastle, PA.; one Grandson Michael A. Gross of Valrico, FL.; one Granddaughter, Lisa A. Licari of Duryea, PA.; three Great-Grandsons, John Gross, Ethan Licari and Evan Licari; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 5, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. from the Harold M. Zimmerman & Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, PA. with Rev. Richard A. Seaks officiating. Burial with military graveside honors provided by the Chambersburg V.F.W. Post #1599 Honor Guard will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle, PA. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home. The Greencastle V.F.W. will hold a memorial service at the funeral home on Wednesday at 7:30 P.M. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in his memory to The Evangelical Lutheran Church Of Waynesboro, 43 S. Church St., Waynesboro, PA. 17268 or to the Good Shepherd Home, Designated For Jack Izer, 610 Saint John St., Allentown, PA. 18103.
