Iva E. Burger, age 86, a resident of the Falling Spring Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Chambersburg, PA since November 2008, and formerly of the Trinity House, Waynesboro, PA and N. Carlisle St. Greencastle, PA, died at 2:50 A.M., Sunday, February 15, 2009 in the nursing center.
Born, March 11, 1922 in Hagerstown, MD she was the daughter of the late Irvin K. and Carrie L. (Brubaker) Martin.
She and her husband, Wilbur S. Burger were married September 7, 1974. He died on November 30, 2003.
Mrs. Burger was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Greencastle, PA. She worked as a clerk at the Park Avenue Pharmacy of Chambersburg.
Surviving family are, three daughters, Joyce Wolfe of Mercersburg, PA, Nadene Welsh of Waynesboro, PA, and Connie Barr of Greencastle, PA; two sons, Kenneth Wetzel of Greencastle, PA and Dennis Wetzel of Rouzerville, PA; one sister, Norma Yeager of St. Thomas, PA; 15 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Dennis Wetzel Jr., a granddaughter, Marcene May, sisters, Mildred Stumbaugh, Margaret Poper, Marion Garling, Frances Ganoe and an infant brother and sister.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 19, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. from the Trinity Lutheran Church, 1186 Jason Dr., Greencastle, PA with Rev. William DeHass officiating. Burial will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle, PA. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. at the Harold M. Zimmerman & Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, PA and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church. The family requests that flowers be omitted and memorial contributions be made in her memory to the Trinity Lutheran Church, 1186 Jason Dr., Greencastle, PA 17225 or to the American Cancer Society, 384 Floral Ave., Chambersburg, PA 17201.
