Pastor Irvin Daniel Showalter, age 83 a resident of Menno Village Chambersburg, PA and formerly of McVeytown, PA died early Sunday morning February 21, 2016 in his home. He had been in failing health the past two years.
Born October 18, 1932 in Maugansville, MD, he was the son of the late Frank and Fanny (Miller) Showalter. He married Dorcas Eby Showalter on May 7, 2011.
He was a member of Juniata Mennonite Church of Port Royal, PA. Irvin was a farmer, operated a saw mill and built several homes. He was a minister of the gospel and enjoyed woodworking.
In addition to his wife, surviving family are one daughter Shirley Schaell of Lewistown, PA, one son Terry Showalter and wife Darlis of Mt. Union, PA, one grandson, four granddaughters, one great-granddaughter, one sister Marie Showalter Eby of Clear Spring, MD.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Mary Ellen Eby Showalter, one sister Anna Myrick and brother-in-law Jonas Eby.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday February 27 at 11:00 AM from the Living Springs Mennonite Church 500 Ridge Rd. McVeytown, PA with Ministers Ivan Weaver, John Slaymaker and Roy Groff officiating. Burial will be in the Strodes Mills Mennonite Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday from 2:00 – 4:00 PM and 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the Mercersburg Mennonite Church 10060 Buchanan Trail West Mercersburg, PA and two hours before the service on Saturday at the Living Springs Mennonite Church. The family requests that flowers be omitted. Memorial contributions may be given to the Christian Aid Ministries 198 Walnut Dr. Mifflintown, PA 17059. Arrangements were handled by the Harold M.
