Irvin E. Myers age 86 of Greencastle, PA went to be with his Lord and Savior surrounded by his family and friends at 3:40 P.M. on Saturday, August 15, 2009 in his home.
Born March 5, 1923 in Greencastle, PA he was the son of the late Clinton and Ida (Shrader) Myers.
Irvin and his wife of 63 wonderful years, Doris J. (Eshelman) Myers were married March 1, 1946 in Hagerstown, MD.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. He served in Normandy, Northern France and Rhineland. He was a Prisoner of War of the Germans for 100 days. He received three Bronze Stars, the Purple Heart and P.O.W. medals.
After returning from his military service he worked on the railroad. He later retired after 30 years from the Letterkenny Army Depot. He obtained his G.E.D. Irvin was a member of the Harry D. Zeigler VFW Post 6319 and the Frank L. Carbaugh American Legion Post 373 both of Greencastle.
Irvin enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling and camping with friends from Quebec to Florida. He was a wonderful husband and father who will be missed tremendously by his family and friends. He enjoyed building their family home in the 1950''s. Irvin spent many hours building porches on homes his daughter Sherry restored and was called the porch man. Irvin enjoyed fishing and playing softball. Irvin loved people and was very loved by everyone.
Irvin and his family attended the Four Square Church in Greencastle from 1950 to 1970. He has been a member of the First Assembly of God in Greencastle since 1973 where he was an Elder, Usher and Greeter. In his earlier years he was active with the Bus Ministry at both the Four Square Church and First Assembly of God.
Surviving family in addition to his wife, are Daughter, Beverly (wife of Bub) Hahn of Greencastle, PA; Son, Laurent (husband of Erin) Myers of Rockville, MD; Daughter, Bonita (wife of Robert) Goshorn of Chambersburg, PA; five Grandchildren, Michael McDonald, Alicia Goshorn, Tyler Myers, Julia Myers and Devin Myers; two Great-Grandchildren, Chloe and Dylan Weller; Brother, Wilbur Myers; and Three Sisters, June Reeder, Betty Friese, and Beulah Diehl.
He was preceded in death by a Daughter, Sherry Lee Corbett; Granddaughter, Evette Marie Hahn; Sister Edna Monn and three Brothers, Raymond, Walter and Bill Myers.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. from the First Assembly Of God, 525 East Leitersburg St., Greencastle with his Nephew Rev. Norman Gloeckler, Rev. Walter Smith and Rev. Daniel Barnes officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. at the First Assembly of God and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
