Howard M. Heckman, age 91 of 8459 Huber Rd. St. Thomas, Pa. died at 7:40 A.M. Saturday October 17, 2009 in his home.
Born January 1, 1918 in St. Thomas Twp. Franklin Co., Pa., he was the son of the late Harvey and Susan Ada (Meyers) Heckman.
He was a retired farmer having farmed for 62 years at his present farm. He attended the Old Order River Brethren. Howard attended St. Thomas schools. He enjoyed attending antique engine shows and operating his corn meal grinder.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and traveling with his wife to Florida in the winter months.
He and his wife Naomi M. (Gayman) Heckman were married November 11, 1943 near Lemasters.
Surviving family in addition to his wife are three daughters, Evelyn Irene (Mrs. Jay) Grove, St. Thomas, Pa., Arlene Grace (Mrs. John J.) Byers, Somerset, Pa., and Alma Jean (Mrs. Paul A. ) Miller, Chambersburg, Pa., two sisters, Ethel Shelly and Lois Miller, both of St. Thomas, Pa., fourteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter Phyllis Marie Heckman, brother Eldon Heckman, sister Maye Myers and one great-grandson.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday October 21 at 10:00 A.M. from the Upton Church Of The Brethren 8490 Warm Spring Rd. Upton, Pa. with Ministers Carl Meyers, Howard Meyers and Rev. Floyd Myers officiating. Burial will be in the Meyers Cemetery near Welsh Run, Pa. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2 - 4 P.M. and 6 - 8 P.M. at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle and at the church one hour before the service on Wednesday. The family requests that flowers be omitted and memorial contributions given in his memory to the Lutheran Home Care And Hospice 2700 Luther Dr. Chambersburg, Pa. 17202.
