Helen M. Needy
Helen M. (Miller) Needy, age 75 of Greencastle, PA died at 9:30 AM Friday, June 12, 2015 in her home following a three month illness.
Born April 18, 1940 in Fairview, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late J. Fred and Elizabeth (Hykes) Miller. She married Samuel E. Needy on April 18, 1964 in the Greencastle Church of the Brethren by her late uncle the Rev. Glenn Heckman.
In her earlier life, Helen worked from 1959- 1966 in the ordering department of the former Landis Machine Co. of Waynesboro and from 1967 – 1973 she worked as a receptionist in the Pier Division of Landis Machine in Benton Harbor MI. She and her husband were in charge of cooking and food preparation at Camp Joy El near Greencastle from 1983-2002 when they retired.
She was a member of the Grace Brethren Church in Waynesboro where she was involved with the SMM Girls Program, Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Hospitality Committee and the Keenagers program.
Helen had been involved with Camp Joy El since 1974, sang with the Joy Chorale and helped with the Release Time Bible ‘Program for over 25 years in Greencastle and Waynesboro. She was a 1959 graduate of James Buchanan High School.
Surviving family in addition to her husband Samuel are one brother, Glenn Miller and wife Betty of Greencastle, one sister Dorothy Mowery of Greencastle, step-mother Eleanor (Angle) Miller of Mercersburg and four nephews. She also had one sister Betty McClure who preceded her in death.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle. A graveside interment service will be held on Wednesday June 17 at 9:00 AM at the Welsh Run Church of the Brethren Cemetery near Mercersburg. A memorial service will follow on Wednesday June 17 at 11:00 AM at the Grace Brethren Church 250 Philadelphia Ave. Waynesboro, PA with Revs. Timothy Clothier and Larry Weber officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in her memory to the Grace Brethren Church 250 Philadelphia Ave. Waynesboro, PA 17268 or Joy El Ministries 3741 Joy El Dr. Greencastle, PA 17225.
