Harold Maxwell “Max” Izer
Harold Maxwell “Max” Izer, age 103, a resident of the Broadmore Senior Living Center in Hagerstown, MD for the past eight years and formerly of State Line, PA died at 1:00 PM Sunday, May 7, 2017 in the senior living center.
Born November 4, 1913 in Greencastle, PA, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Nora (Swisher) Izer. He married Mary V. (Minnich) Izer on October 9, 1937. She died on May 7, 1995.
Max retired from the former Fairchild Aircraft of Hagerstown and in his earlier years worked at the former M.P. Moller Pipe Organ Co. He was the oldest member of the Christ’s Reformed Church in Hagerstown.
Max was an avid deer hunter, enjoyed gardening and working in his yard and refinishing old furniture.
Surviving family are one daughter Carolyn Lee Foster of Hyattsville, MD, one son Harold E. Izer of Hagerstown, MD, one sister D. Jean Leckron of State Line, PA and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers Ambrose Izer, Lauren Izer, G. Robert Izer and two sisters Helen Myers, Isabelle Miller and a son-in-law George A. Foster.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday May 11 at 10:00 AM at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle with Rev. Dr. Gregg R. Meserole officiating. Burial will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery Greencastle. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of Washington County Inc.747 Northern Ave. Hagerstown, MD 21742 or to the charity of one’s choice.
