Harold M. Hoffman, age 91 of 38 North Carlisle St. Greencastle, PA. passed away Thursday evening February 10, 2011 following a brief illness.
Born June 20, 1919 in Greencastle, PA., he was the son of the late Upton G. and Zola M. (Lanehart) Hoffman.
He had retired in 1978 from Letterkenny Army Depot Chambersburg after 30 years service. Harold was a life member of the Harry D. Zeigler V.F.W. Post #6319 of Greencastle where he recently received recognition for 65 years of membership.He served on the Greencastle Borough Shade Tree Commission for a number of years.
He was a 1937 graduate of Greencastle High School and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II having served in the South Pacific theatre.
He and his wife, Alma J. (Keller) Hoffman were married on August 6, 1943 in Winchester, VA.
Harold enjoyed hunting, collecting canes, visiting antique stores, wearing his bow ties and participating in the Greencastle Old Home Week activities.
Surviving family in addition to his wife are one son William A. and wife Carol A. (Meyers) Hoffman, Finksburg, Md., two daughters Trudy K. and husband Larry Ensminger, Greencastle and Carole R. Deans, Mercersburg, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, one brother John A. Hoffman, Middletown, PA. and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Max F. Hoffman.
Funeral services will be held on Monday morning February 14 at 10:30 A.M. from the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle with Rev. David Rawley officiating. Burial will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery Greencastle. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 6 - 8 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in his memory to the Greencastle Old Home Week Association P.O. Box 536 Greencastle, PA. 17225 or to the Jerome R. King Playground Association P.O. Box 2 Greencastle, PA. 17225. The Greencastle V.F.W. will hold a memorial service at the funeral home on Sunday evening at 7:30 P.M.
