Harold (Hendy) S. Hendershott
Harold (Hendy) Sharpe Hendershott, age 78, died peacefully on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at his home in Charlotte, NC. He was born on January 14, 1935 in Mercersburg, PA and he was the son of the late Isaac and Olive (Bailey) Hendershott. He lived most of his life in Greencastle and Fayetteville PA. Harold was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Carolyn (Brandt) Hendershott who died in 1993.
Harold was employed at Frick Company in Waynesboro, PA for 44 years. In his retirement years, he loved driving a limousine part-time for the Phantom Shadow limousine service and the Mercersburg Academy, providing transportation for the students to and from the Baltimore/Washington metropolitan airports. He was a member of the Waynesboro Otterbein Church and a proud veteran of the US Army, serving in Germany for nearly two years after graduating from high school. He enjoyed watching, playing and coaching sports and especially loved watching all his grandchildren participate in their many sporting events. He also had a special love for animals.
Surviving family are his two daughters Tammy Heefner and husband Frederick of Greencastle, Kim Tyler and husband Tim of Charleston, SC, one son Michael Hendershott and wife Heather of Charlotte, NC, 6 grandchildren who he adored and who loved him dearly; Jami Fay and husband Zachary, Tim and Andrew Tyler, Rachael, Alyson and Andrew Hendershott, one sister, Phyllis Bingaman of Mercersburg, PA and his very special friend Maureen Huey of Charlotte, NC.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one sister Doris Smith.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 13 at 9:30 AM from the Evangelical Lutheran Church 130 North Washington St. Greencastle Revs. Martin Horn and John Mullins officiating. Burial with military honors provided by the Chambersburg V.F.W. Post #1599 Honor Guard will be in the Parklawns Memorial Gardens of Chambersburg. The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service on Saturday. A special thank you to the Hospice & Palliative Care, Lake Norman, NC for their loving care and support.
