Harold Crunkilton Gayman of Fayetteville, PA. and formerly of Greencastle, PA. passed away at 4:32 P.M. Friday, April 1, 2011 in the Good Shepherd Somers Hospice House in Sebring, Florida following an illness of one month.
Born February 17, 1927 in Antrim Township, Franklin County, PA., he was the son of the late Henry S. and Hattie (Crunkilton) Gayman.
He married Ruth "Betty" (Keck) Gayman on March 10, 1951 and they just celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary.
Harold was a graduate of Greencastle High School, Class of 1945. He served in the US Navy during World War II and attended Franklin and Marshall College for 3 years. He was a member of the Greencastle Presbyterian Church.
Harold served as a member and Vice President of the Board of Directors of the First National Bank and Tower Bank of Greencastle for twenty years; past director of Franklin Feed & Supply Co.; Franklin County Farm Bureau member and past president; past board member of the Franklin County Soil & Water Conservation District; member and past president of the PA. Forage & Grassland Council; past member of the Board of Directors of Penn State Extension Service and with his wife was past advisor to the Franklin County 4-H County Council.
In 1973 he was honored as a Pennsylvania Master Farmer by Penn State University and Pennsylvania Farmer Magazine. He enjoyed square dancing for many years with the Whirley Bird Square Dance Club. In recent years his main hobbies were playing golf and planting corn.
Surviving family in addition to his wife are two sons Mark and his wife Sally Gayman, Waynesboro, PA., Grant and his wife Leah Gayman, Waynesboro, PA., four granddaughters, Abby Gayman, Joy Gayman, Maggie Gayman, & Sarah Gayman and one step-grandson Quentin Stembridge. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Charles Gayman and two sisters Maud Myers and Mary Gayman.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 9 at 11:30 A.M. from the Greencastle Presbyterian Church, 57 West Baltimore St., Greencastle with Pastor Taylor Camerer officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 to 11:30 A.M. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Organ Fund of the Greencastle Presbyterian Church, 57 West Baltimore St., Greencastle, PA. 17225 or to the Good Shepherd Somers Hospice House, 1110 Hammock Road, Sebring, FL 33870.
