Harold R. Duffey, age 94, of Greencastle, PA, passed away on Monday, February 21, 2022, at Menno Haven Rehab. Born February 8, 1928, in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late Lewis and Edith Rice Duffey.
Mr. Duffey worked as a mechanic for a number of years, beginning at the former Thumma’s Motor Co. in Hagerstown, MD and lastly at Mack Truck, Hagerstown, MD for 25 years, retiring in 1986. He was a life member of the Rescue Hose Co. #1. He also served as a member of the Fire Police and was extremely proud of the engine work he helped with for the old Seagrave. Over the years, he was awarded numerous awards for his work. Mr. Duffey seemed to have the ability to fix anything; he especially enjoyed restoring cars, most notably his 1940 five passenger Chevrolet Coupe and his 1937 Chevrolet Flatback. A quick witted spirit, he always had a quick comment or a joke to tell. He enjoyed travel and time spent with his grandchildren traveling.
Surviving are two children, Harold E. Duffey (wife Marlene) of Greencastle, PA and Nancy Brunner of Greencastle, PA; three grandsons, Harold E. “Gene” Duffey, II (wife Connie) of NV, Chad Brunner of McConnellsburg, PA, and Richard Brunner of Three Springs, PA; four great-grandchildren, Weston and Kinsey Brunner of McConnellsburg, PA, Alex Schroer of FL and Samantha Schroer of Mercersburg, PA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Virginia L. Duffey in 2016 and four siblings, Elsie Spangler, Beulah Patterson, James A. Duffey, and Paul Duffey, Sr.
Service and interment in Cedar Hill Cemetery will be private. Arrangements are entrusted to the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Inc., Greencastle, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Rescue Hose Co. #1, 842 S. Washington St., Greencastle, PA 17225.
