Harold R. "Harry" Ambrose, age 77 of 395 Catharine St. Greencastle, Pa. died at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, March 12, 2009 in the Waynesboro Hospital.

Born May 21, 1931 in Hagerstown, Md., he was the son of the late Oscar C. and Beatrice (Philpott) Ambrose.

He was a retired Army Chief Warrant Officer II, having served two tours in Vietnam, one tour in Korea and a tour in Germany. He received the bronze star, army commendation, good conduct, meritorious service, Vietnam service and National Defense medals. He also worked at Grove Worldwide in Shady Grove and last at Fort Ritchey.

Mr. Ambrose was a member of the Greencastle Baptist Church, post member of the Harry D. Zeigler V.F.W. Post #6319 of Greencastle and a member of the Retired Officers Association.

He was a former coach of the Greencastle American Legion baseball team and enjoyed traveling, fishing and was an avid Yankees fan.
He and his wife, Eliane E. (Lebraux) were married September 2, 1953 in France.

Surviving family in addition to his wife of 55 years are, three daughters, Shirley Keller, Hagerstown, Md., Elaine Ambrose, Stafford, Va., Sandy Poffenberger, Williamsport, Md., three sons, Gary Ambrose and Steve Ambrose, both of Greencastle,Pa. and Robert Ambrose, Frederick, Md., one sister, Betty Robinson, Lewistown, Pa., ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers Beauford Ambrose and Virgil Ambrose and a sister Mildred Swisher.

Funeral services will be held on Monday March 16 at 2:00 P.M. from the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle with Pastor Stephen Myshrall officiating. Burial with military graveside honors provided by the Chambersburg V.F.W. Post #1599 will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery Greencastle. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 6 - 8 P.M. The Greencastle V.F.W. Post will hold a memorial service on Sunday at 7:30 P.M. at the funeral home.
