Ms. Catherine Grace Brake, a longtime residence of Greencastle, died Saturday morning, December 14, 2013, at Penn Hall at Menno Haven, Chambersburg. She was 101 years old. Born July 26, 1912, in Edenville, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Clyde Jacob and Blanche Effie Ricker Brake. She graduated fifth in her class from Lemasters High School. Grace, as she was commonly known, worked for many years at Fairchild Engine and Aircraft Corporation, Hagerstown. She was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church, Greencastle, where she taught Sunday School. Formerly she was a member of Upton Lutheran Parish where she played the piano. Grace enjoyed reading; and animals, especially cats and kittens; listening to music and playing the piano; as well as knitting and needle work, of which family and friends were often the recipient of her projects. Surviving are nieces, Audrey Brake Harmon of Chambersburg, and Suzanne Brake Miller and husband James of Reading, Pennsylvania; and several grand nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Clyde Clarence Brake in 1979. The family will receive friends at Harold M. Zimmerman & Son Funeral Home, 45 South Carlisle Street, Greencastle, Tuesday, December 17, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. The funeral service will begin at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11:00 AM, with her pastor, Rev. Martin H. Horn, officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ms. Brake’s name to Penn Hall Benevolent Fund, 1425 Philadelphia Avenue, Chambersburg, Pennsylvania 17201; or Lutheran Home Care and Hospice, 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, Pennsylvania 17202.
