Glenn I. Knepper
Glenn Ivan Knepper, age 82 of Wilmington, NC, formerly of Greencastle, PA, went to be with his Lord & Savior peacefully on Tuesday evening, February 28, 2017 at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Center in Wilmington, NC after a lengthy illness.
He was born June 24, 1934, to Joel & Ferne (Wright) Knepper of Hustontown, PA. He married Dorothy Ann McKendree on December 30, 1955.
Glenn graduated from Hustontown High School in 1952 and Greer Technical Institute in Chicago, IL, in 1960. He also served in the US Army from 1954 to 1956. Glenn worked for Mack Trucks in the power train division for 30 years before retiring in 1992.
Glenn is currently a member of Pine Valley United Methodist Church, Wilmington, NC. He was a charter member of the former Calvary Bible Church, Greencastle, PA, and helped to build the church. He was an Elder and Sunday School teacher at Calvary for several years. Glenn and his wife, Ann, went on many missionary trips with Word of Life. Glenn was active in the Greencastle Lions Club. He served on the Greencastle Water Authority and the Greencastle Town Council for many years. He was Assistant Boy Scout Leader of Troop 99. He also served on the Board of the Besore Memorial Library. He was a volunteer at Camp Joy El every Tuesday for over 20 years.
Glenn enjoyed woodworking, hunting, camping and travelling, spending time at his cabin in Fulton County and riding his 4 wheeler. Surviving family in addition to his wife are son, Gary Joel Knepper and Debbie of Greencastle, PA, daughter Karen Gordy Hoag and husband Rick of Wilmington, NC. Two grandchildren, Andrew Glenn Gordy, Charlotte, NC, Emily Claire Gordy, Wilmington, NC, and two step-grandchildren Sarah and Spencer Hoag, Wilmington, NC, his brother Larry Knepper, New Holland, PA, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Fredric J. Knepper.
Funeral services will be held on Monday March 6 at 11:00 AM at the Center United Methodist Church, 3195 Doran Rd., Waterfall, PA, with Rev. Betty Secrest and Rev. David Mummert officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, PA and at the church one hour before the service on Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in his memory to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Dr., Wilmington, NC, 28401.
