Gideon E. Martin
Gideon E. Martin, age 69 of Leitersburg Rd. Waynesboro, PA died at 7:26 PM Wednesday, February 3, 2016 in the Chambersburg Hospital following complications from surgery.
Born October 8, 1946 in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late Lloyd K. and Nora Virginia (Horst) Martin. He married his wife Grace D. (Witmer) Martin on June 28, 1969.
He retired after 34 years employment as a meat cutter with the Giant and Martin’s supermarket stores. He was currently employed at Penn Avenue Meats in Hagerstown.
Gideon was an active member of the Salem Ridge Community Church of Greencastle where he served as head church trustee, taught Sunday School, cemetery trustee, member of the prayer group and was part of the church maintenance committee. He enjoyed hunting, woodworking, working in his yard and going to the family cabin. He was a 1965 graduate of Greencastle-Antrim High School.
Surviving family in addition to his wife are one daughter Shante Good and her husband Matthew of Hagerstown, three brothers Emory E. Martin, James M. Martin, Stephen L. Martin all of Waynesboro, three sisters Lois J. Sensenig of Lancaster, PA, Norma Jean Bollinger of Great Cacapon WV, Genevieve S. Martin of Baltimore, MD and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Almeda Barnhart, Violet Hege, Anabelle Young and two brothers Jason Martin, Marvin Martin and infant brother Clifford Martin.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday February 10 at 11:00 AM at the Salem Ridge Community Church 441 Pensinger Rd. Greencastle with Rev. Brian Emery officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday from 5:00 – 8:00 PM and one hour before the service on Wednesday. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in the adjoining church cemetery with Rev. Joe Martin officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in his memory to the Salem Ridge Community Church 441 Pensinger Rd. Greencastle, PA 17225.
