Gerald O. Morganthall Sr.
Gerald Owen Morganthall Sr., age 92 of Greenfield, Indiana and formerly of 130 Fairview Ave. Waynesboro, PA for many years, died Wednesday, September 5, 2012 in the Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.
Born October 8, 1919 in Waynesboro, PA he was the son of the late Owen L. and Jeanette (Ryder) Morganthall. He and his wife Janet E. (Devor) Morganthall were married December 5, 1946. She died on March 9, 2006.
He retired in 1982 from Mack Truck of Hagerstown. Gerald was a 1938 graduate of Waynesboro High School. He was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church of Waynesboro.
He also was a member of the Acacia Masonic Lodge No. 586 F.& A.M. of Waynesboro, Harrisburg Consistory, Zembo Temple of Harrisburg, member of Joe Stickell Post #15 American Legion of Waynesboro, member of the Order of Owls Nest No 1023, member Owls Club and life member and past president of the A.T.H.& L Fire Co. of Waynesboro.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps in Italy during World War II serving with the 301st Bombardment Group.
Surviving family are one son Gerald O. (wife Sharon H.) Morganthall Jr., New Palestine, Indiana and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday September 12 at 2:30 P.M. in the Green Hill Cemetery Waynesboro with Pastor Jay Zimmerman officiating. Military graveside honors will given by the Chambersburg V.F.W. Post #1599 Honor Guard. There will be no public viewing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in his memory to the Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library 45 East Main St. Waynesboro PA 17268 or to the Lunch Place C/O Christ United Methodist Church 100 South Church St. Waynesboro, PA.
