Gerald W. Martin

Gerald W. Martin, age 92, a resident of Menno Haven in Chambersburg, PA and formerly of Molly Pitcher Hwy. South Chambersburg, died at 1:40 AM Wednesday, November 15, 2017 in Menno Haven.

Born March 8, 1925 in Maugansville, MD, he was the son of the late Henry and Edna (Martin) Martin. He married his wife Pauline I. (Albin) Martin on May 10, 1947. She died on April 11, 2006.

Gerald along with his wife owned and operated the former Cloverbloom Farm Market near Marion, PA He was a long time active member of the Salem Ridge Community Church near Greencastle where he served as a Sunday school teacher and was involved in many church activities.

Gerald was active in and had a heart for mission projects over the years and especially the MCC Meat Canning Project. He helped start the meat canning project and even hosted the project at his farm market for a number of years. He enjoyed traveling and was an avid reader.

Surviving family are two daughters, Sherilyn K. Martin and husband Eldon of Shippensburg, Karalee S. Frey and husband Jay of Waynesboro, two sons, Darwin R. Martin and wife Carolyn of Chambersburg and Wendell L. Martin and wife Becky of Greencastle, 11 grandchildren, 19  great-grandchildren;  one brother, Aldine Martin of Greencastle, two sisters, Lowe Mae Crider of Shippensburg and Miriam Freisen of Manheim, PA.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one son, Larion J. Martin and two brothers, Vernon Martin and Ivan Martin.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 20 at 11:00 AM at the Salem Ridge Community Church 441 Pensinger Rd. Greencastle, PA with Pastors Adam Meredith and Gary Zook officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.There will be no public viewing but the family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service on Monday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his memory to the  North Side Mennonite Church 716 North Locust Street Hagerstown, MD 21740. Online condolences may be expressed at www.zimmermanfh.com .  Arrangements were handled by the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home in Greencastle.
