George E. Smith passed away at his home on Sunday, July 12, 2015 in Hagerstown, MD.
Born on February 11, 1933 in Smithsburg, MD, he was the son of the late Jesse S. Smith and Ann M. Kinney. He attended local schools and graduated from Hagerstown High School in 1951. George was well thought of by his classmates, and was involved in many sports. His love for football and track along with sharing his artistic flair were important to him.
George spent two years at HJC and he completed several Johns Hopkins courses in Hagerstown. He also owned and operated a small manufacturing business in Greencastle, GSI, building aerial lifts prior to retiring.
George is survived by his wife, Beverly Bennett Smith, and one son, Bradley Bennett Smith. He is also survived by two sisters, Pat Smith Thompson and Sarah Smith McGaha, three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, two daughters-in-law, Lisa Dietrich and Terri Swope. His son, Steven E. Smith, predeceased him in 1994.
His final resting ceremonies will be private. Arrangements are being handled by the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home of Greencastle.
