Genevieve V. (Hykes) Kiser, age 97, of Chambersburg, PA, and formerly of Greencastle, PA passed away on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at Chambers Pointe Nursing Home. Born December 10, 1927, in Coseytown, PA, she was the daughter of the late Preston D. and Olive J. Myers Hykes.
Mrs. Kiser was a 1946 graduate of Greencastle-Antrim Senior High School and also attended the old one room schoolhouse, White Pine in Coseytown. She retired in 1990 from Corning Glass Works with 24 years of service. She was a member of the Chambersburg Church of the Brethren and a former member of Greencastle Church of the Brethren for 50 years. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, singing in the choir for 35 years, painting pictures, crocheting, and her flower gardens. Notably, she had once gone on a mission trip to Haiti. She was active in several local organizations such as Frances Leiter Center-Children’s Aid Society for 16 years, Greencastle Antrim Woman’s Fellowship, serving on the board, and Greencastle Antrim Homemakers.
Surviving are four children, Dennis A. Kiser (wife Vicki) of Chambersburg, PA , Curtis O. Kiser (wife Beth) of Richmond, VA, Cheryl K. Kiser of Greencastle, PA, and Charles O. Kiser (wife Jamie) of Greencastle, PA; son-in-law, Doug May of Boonsboro, MD; 11 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Zane O. Kiser in 2010, brother, George H. Hykes in 2020, and daughter, Karen May in 2024.
The family will receive friends on Monday, December 23, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM prior to the service at 12:00 PM in the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Inc., 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, PA, where Pastor Mark Baliles will officiate. The interment will follow the service at Cedar Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to Frances Leiter Center, 539 Lincoln Way East, Chambersburg, PA 17201 or at www.cassd.org/francesleitercenter.
