Garnet Richard "Rich" Rotz, age 78 of Chambersburg, PA died at 2:50 A.M. Monday, June 3, 2013 in his home in the presence of his loving family following a lengthy illness.
Born September 25, 1934 in Chambersburg, PA, he was the son of the late Garnet R. and Florence M. (Hartman) Rotz. He married Shirley (McClure) Rotz on September 10, 1955. Rich was employed for 40 years at Letterkenny Army Depot of Chambersburg.
He was a member of the Marion First United Methodist Church, a 50 year member of the Marion Volunteer Fire Co. and a member of the Marion Athletic Association where he served as treasurer for over 20 years. Rich also served on the Marion Festival Committee where he was the kitchen coordinator for over 15 years.
Rich coached the Marion pony team in the Nellie Fox League, served as the treasurer of Marion Cub Scout pack 372 and was a volunteer with the American Red Cross Blood Drive. Rich was a 1952 graduate of Greencastle High School, a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a lifetime Phillies fan.
Surviving family in addition to his wife are three sons Richard Rotz and wife Vicki of Haddon Township, NJ, Dr. Barry Rotz and wife Dianne of Cranberry Township, PA, Steve Rotz and wife Terri of Winter Park, FL, one daughter Susan Coughlin and husband Chris of Annapolis, MD, eight grandchildren, Alyson Joyce and husband Michael, Samuel Rotz, Brent Rotz, Jillian Coughlin, Grace Rotz, Hannah Coughlin, Jake Rotz, Jordan Rotz and one sister Shirley Bowman of Marion.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two grandchildren Jason Rotz and Maura Rotz.
Funeral services will be held on Friday June 7 at 1:00 P.M. from the Marion First United Methodist Church 94 Colorado St. Marion, PA with Rev. Chris Renner officiating. Burial will be in the Parklawns Memorial Gardens in Chambersburg. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 5 - 8 P.M. at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle. There will be no viewing at the church on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in his memory to the Amyloidosis Foundation at www.amyloidosis.org or to the Marion First United Methodist Church Building Fund 94 Colorado St. Box 382 Marion, PA 17235.
