Frederick W. “Will” Ploegman, age 83, of Waynesboro, PA, passed away on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at his home. Born March 7, 1941, in Enum Claw, WA, he was the son of the late Thaddeus Ploegman and Clarence Penland and Anna Weber Penland.
Will served honorably in the U.S. Army for 27 years, retiring in 1984 as a Sergeant Major. He served during the Vietnam Conflict with multiple tours, earning many medals to include the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Bronze Star, and Meritorious Service Medal. Will was a member of the VFW in Waynesboro, the Rouzerville Rod and Gun Club and the Mason-Dixon Dart League. He enjoying hunting, fishing, reading about WWII, and the History Channel.
Surviving is his long-time companion of 41 years, Lavonna Daley of Waynesboro; two daughters, Anna Ploegman Jennings (husband Craig) of Plymouth, MI and Amanda Ploegman Abermanis (husband Rob) of White Lake, MI; four grandchildren, Joy Rose and Jeremy Jennings and Arian Bergler (husband James) and Benjamin Abermanis. In addition to his parents and step-father, he was preceded in death by four siblings.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 26, 2024, at 11 AM in the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Inc. 45 South Carlisle St., Greencastle, PA, where Rev. Gayle Ruble will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Interment will be in Macedonia United Brethren Church Cemetery, where military honors will be rendered. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Tunnel to Towers, 2361 Hylan Blvd., Staten Island, NY 10306 or www.t2t.org.
