Franklin M. “Peep” Hykes, age 85, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Friday, March 8, 2024, at The Shook Home. Born in Waynesboro, PA on February 18, 1939, he was the son of the late Franklin S. and Madeline V. Miller Hykes.
Mr. Hykes was a 1957 graduate of Greencastle Antrim High School. Mr. Hykes served honorably in the US Army Reserves, retiring in 1999. He worked at Letterkenny Army Depot for 26 years as an automotive supervisor, retiring in 1993. Mr. Hykes was a member of the Marion First United Methodist Church, VFW Post 6319, American Legion Post 373, Greencastle Sportsman’s Association, Amvets, Marine Corp League, Loyal Order of Moose, Order of Eagles, NRA, and Gold Wing Road Riders Association. He enjoyed hunting, motorcycling, working in the vegetable garden, old time country and gospel music.
He is survived by his daughter, Francine H. Phillips (husband John L.) of Shepherdstown, WV. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Hykes in 2023 and his son, Max Hykes in 2016.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at 11 AM the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Inc., 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, PA, where Pastor Brent Stouffer will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Interment will follow the service in Cedar Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Cumberland Valley Humane Society, 5051 Letterkenny Rd. West, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
