Floyd O. Nisewonder
Floyd O. Nisewonder, age 90 a resident of the Quincy Village since 2003 and formerly of Grant Shook Road Greencastle, PA went home to be with his Lord at 5:37 AM Tuesday, August 11, 2015 in the Quincy Village Nursing Center.
Born June 30, 1925 in Antrim Township, Greencastle, PA he was the son of the late Paul Daniel and Ethel (Wolford) Nisewonder. He married Olive (Burkett) Nisewonder on July 29, 1951 in Hagerstown and lived in Worleytown their entire lives before going to Quincy. She died on April 13, 2013.
He attended the one room Sunrise School in Worleytown, PA. He grew up on the family farm where he helped in raising beef cattle and in the butcher shop which his dad ran for many years. He also worked for the former L.M. Keener Feed Mill (Hammermill) making cattle feed.
Floyd retired from Corning Glass Works Greencastle in 1985 after 25 years of service.
Floyd was a lifelong member of the Macedonia United Brethren Church near Greencastle where he had taught various Sunday School Classes for over 50 years and served faithfully for many years in various positions.
Floyd was a World War II veteran of the US Army having served in the 84th Quartermaster Depot Supply Co. in the Asiatic and Pacific Theatres.
Surviving family are his aunt Rhoda Wolford of Greencastle, sister-in-law Jeanette McMahel of Hagerstown, MD, aunt Fern Tritle of Greencastle, several cousins, nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. He was the last of his immediate family.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Maynard L. Nisewonder in 1997.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 15 at 11:00 AM from the Macedonia United Brethren Church 11887 Worleytown Rd. Greencastle with Rev. Gayle Ruble Sr., Rev. Milton Herrold Jr. and Chaplain Justin Isbister officiating. Burial with graveside military honors provided by the Chambersburg V.F.W. Post #1599 Honor Guard will be in the adjoining church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service on Saturday. Memorial contributions may be given his memory to the Macedonia United Brethren Church 11887 Worleytown Rd.
